LAYING WITH CEMENT GLUE

Mosaic tiles can be laid with any of the following types of cement glue: Litokol Litoplus K55, Laticrete 180 – Kerakoll H40 Tenax – Mapei Adesilex P10 + Isolastic

Preparing the mixture:

Follow the ratio given exactly.

For the amount of water stated into a clean container and add the powder slowly, using an electric drill with a screw mixer attachment to blend it into an even, lump-free paste. Set aside for at least 5 minutes and then mix again (for few seconds).

Application:

Using the smooth side of the spatula, spread an approximately 1 mm thick layer of the mixture over the base; follow this immediately afterwards by a second application, using the toothed part of the spatula this time. Places the tile on the top of the glue, applying a certain pressure to ensure it comes into contact with the glue. Wait the open (drying) time required for the glue before laying the material. Very hot or windy climates, or extremely bases can reduce drying time dramatically, to just a few minutes, so it recommend to check it often, to make sure that the glue has not formed a surface film. If this will happen, simply run the toothed edge of the spatula over it again. If you are tiling walls and using cement glue the joint can be sealed after about 8 years, with Litochrom Starlike epoxy sealant.

LAYING WITH LITOCHROM STARLIKE EPOXY MORTAR

Because the Litochrom Starlike’s thixotropic properties, if used for laying the mosaic, the tiles can be grouted straight away.

GROUTING MOSAIC TILES

When grouting mosaic tiles, use a two-component epoxy grout like Litochrom Starlike, in an appropriate colour.

Preparing the mixture:

Snip off a corner of the bag containing the catalyst (component B) which you will find inside the bucket, then pour it into component A (paste). We recommend you pour in the entire contents of the catalyst bag; to do this, roll up the bag and squeeze out the contents, working on the end opposite corner you have cut off. Using an electric drill with a screw mixer attachment, blend it into an even, lump-free paste.

Scrape the sides and bottom of the bucket with a spatula or trowel to make sure all the mixture comes into contact with the catalyst. It is not advisable to mix by hand. The two components are contained in pre-measured packs so it is impossible to get the mixing proportions wrong. The mixture remains workable for about 45 minutes at a temperature of about 23°C.

Grouting Mosaic tiles

Apply the mixture obtained to the joints, using a rubbercoated spatula and making diagonal movements across the direction of the joints; remove the surplus with the same rubbed-coated spatula.

Cleaning and finishing

The grouting must be cleaning and finishing as soon as possible, i.e. when the product is still wet; care must be taken not to remove the grouting from the joints or leave marks on the surface.

- sprinkle the grouted surface with clean water beforehand

- for the first cleaning stage, dampen the white felt-coated spatula, then wipe it over the tiles, working in a circular motion (both clockwise and anticlockwise), so as to seal the edges of the tesserae perfectly; then remove the surplus sealant from the surface of the tile.

- Next, wipe over the tiles with a stiff sweepex sponge to ensure the finished surface is smooth and sealed; remove all the sealant from the tesserae, taking care not to remove it from the joints, then dry off the excess water.

Using an appropriate cleaner

To remove clear marks (typical of catalyzed products), we recommend you to use an appropriate detergent, as outlined below:

- about 20 minutes after the first cleaning stage, wipe over the tiles a second time with a sweepex sponge, using the detergent diluted with clean water, with a ratio of 1:1; leave the detergent to work for about 15 minutes, the rinse off with clean water.

Caution!

- mix the two components (A+B) correctly

- change the washing water frequently

- change the felt and the sponge once they are drenched with the product

- carry out the final cleaning stage, with the detergent, within 12 hours.

Further technical information regarding the product’s characteristics and application fields can be found on the specifications sheet in the Litokol catalogue. We advise you to read this to ensure correct use.
